How to Train a Dragon (Dreamworks) Live Spectacular Show

This Saturday we spent some time with just the boys and took them to watch a live show that was simply amazing. How to Train a Dragon Live Spectacular was a very good show. Watch the cartoon movie before seeing the show to know what is going on if you've never seen it!

Here's a youtube preview:

Be prepared when you go to spend a lot of money. Unless you have a firm grip on your wallet be prepared to empty it especially when you get those puppy dog eyes from your kids. Before we even reached our seats there were stands filled with overpriced action figure toys, plush toys, spinning toys, glowing toys, toys you can wear and t shirts. This is common every time we go to a show but man, my pocketbooks hurt.

Of course we're suckers for those darn puppy eyes so we ended buying those action figure dragons (where only the legs move - some action.) and glowing necklaces. Because we were unable to bring my nephew we bought him a dragon and glowing necklace too. Here's a break down of some of the toys:

Dragon action figures/plastic toys $25
Dragon plush toys $30
Dragon hat / wings / tail (toothless) $20 / $25 / $25
Dragon glowing necklace $8

After seeing those prices I didn't ask for any more prices. That was only the merchandise. Our show was in the Jerome Schottenstein Center so of course we had the super duper food choices for prime cheap prices (<= sarcasm) I bought 1 minute maid lemonade and 1 powerade (small bottles) for $7.50. WOW! At another stand for 2 pretzels, large popcorn, large soda = $18. The only good thing is the souvenir cup we get to keep.
All in all it was a very good show and the robotics were amazing. There was plenty of fire, smoke, flying dragons, dancing vikings and walking /interacting dragons. We attended the 11 am show on a Saturday which had little to no crowd with 2 other families in our section which our seats were the first row right behind VIP. We purchased our tickets through groupon so for a $78 seat we paid $46. If we would have bought the same groupon for another day or time we would have been a section back in 204/205. I also heard from a friend there were technical difficulties so it made their show a little long and tiring.

This was a very good family show but again a little pricey when everything adds up. Can't wait for another outing! Hopefully we can get good seats for the Cirque du Soleil coming soon!

The Next Big Thing Is Already HERE! and I want one!

At one point in my life, I wanted an IPhone so freaking bad! Everyone had one and I didn't care what version.. I just had to have one! Until I had one.

Now I had TMobile which sucked but didn't suck. The bills were not that cheap but they approved me for 2 lines no deposit unlike AT&T at the time which said they wanted $500 down (well duh if I had that much money to just put down I think my credit would be a little better than it was!). I had every new phone on the Android market including the Galaxy S I and when we switched to Sprint for the unlimited 4g I got the Galaxy S II. This year came the Galaxy S III and I wanted it but figured since my II was still in good shape and working it was not worth forking out the extra cash.

Well before the big switch to Sprint, I had a fairly good Android phone but everyone was talking about how great the IPhone was so I got one off my brother for $100 (8g 3 I think) and of course to use it on TMobile he had it unlocked for me, but when adding it to my plan was told it could only run on the EDGE network. For those of you who don't know what EDGE is, it was the dirt road before today's super highway (4GLTE). So while everyone was on 3G (at the time) I was still creeping on EDGE. UGH #Fail number one. Well because it was unlocked I had all the aps for free so that was great. But unlike my TMobile phone at the time could barely find time to download anything because 1 it was slow, 2 as soon as I was downloading someone would call me. My other phone could use internet and phone at the same time. Go figure you couldn't on the IPhone. I loved the keyboard on the IPhone and I never knew why but typing and texting was so much more fun. I described my  moment with the IPhone as having a Lexus with no wheels. It was nice to look at but couldn't go anywhere.

The thing I hated most about IPhones was how you had to pay more for more memory. Seriously? On Android phones, they all cost about the same, dramatically less than IPhones but however, you could easily add memory but buying an SD card. So I can buy an 8g phone, and add a 16g SD card for a lot cheaper than those spending hundreds on a 16g IPhone, which means cheaper phone with more memory.

Now that the IPhone 5 has come out, I watch these funny Samsung Galaxy S III commercials laughing because for everything that is NEW on the IPhone 5, we've had for years. The bigger screens, the ability to use net & phone and so on. I spent some of today reading the reviews of avid IPhone users on the new 5 and they are more disappointed than anyone spending days defending how great the IPhone is. Of course there are people that don't like Samsung and love Motorola and other phones as much as I love my Samsung products but IPhone holds themselves so high they need to catch up to the rest of the technology world with the wants and demands of the interface users. They try to monopolize the cell phone world by having the Iphone users only stick with their products after spending so much money on aps and programs, products and such that people need to realize what they paid for, we Android users had for free. Apple computers are also another subject to be discussed since they like to overprice what everyone should have for free, anti virus open source programs and OS. But then again that's another opinionated blog.

Well here are a few Huffington Posts articles to read for fun after watching this short Samsung commercial.

FOOTBALL SEASON ... chance to make money or lose more of it....

This was our funny conversation moment first thing this morning...

Alarm clock went off this morning and Ving gets up, looks at me and says "MAN! Green Bay got robbed last night!!"

... I'm thinking... What? well what did they take? was it the insurgents? (Kat Williams reference LOL)

... & I give him the blankest look til I realized what he was really talking about. "Oh geez. Did you lose?" ... "yes...."   (well damn - can I get a "good morning" first before waking me up with the "hey hunnie i lost my football bet."

Cousin B., did we not agree to not answer Ving's text after a certain amount?? lol  :(  he better work OT this week!!

Every season we can't wait to watch football, place bets on who we think will win, pay for food because we cook in the morning and pig out all day! This year we took it a little further and paid Direct TV for their NFL Sunday game ticket so he can watch all the NFL games, & on one channel he can watch up to 8 games at the same time. Literally!

It's great with scores for all the games plus where they are on the field (the blue bar at the top or bottom of the box/game indicates the forward progress and as they get closer to the end zone it turns red - indicating they're in the redzone. It will then turn green for the extra point.) You just move the yellow box around to which game you want to listen to.

If that doesn't get me "good wife" points I don't know what will!! :)

We also bought the ESPN gameplan package - which sucks at time because of the quality of the small school's coverage of their games is worse than watching a taping of a high school football game. So distorted and blurry, its sad. I don't even know why we bought it when he doesn't even follow the small schools but I guess it just the idea, if he wanted to watch it - its available. eh.

The down side it the costs of the season, the cost of food, beer, liquor, tv channels, bets lost and family time is either we watch it together or i'm in the other room with the kids watching Phineas & Ferb. This season, I'm growing fond of Phineas & Ferb. Our team isn't doing so well .. and cussing at the TV isn't always fun.

Well, guess I asked for it when I paid for it! haha

Go OSU Buckeyes! Go GB Packers! Go anyone that plays against the Steelers!! lol
(GREAT JOB LAST WK OAKLAND RAIDERS!!)

............

Regarding the game last night... I had to re-explain that YES GB did get cheated but not for the reason he thinks they did.

NFL Statement On Seahawks-Packers: Replacement Ref's Call Stands On Golden Tate TD (VIDEO)

From the AP:

NEW YORK (AP) — The NFL has upheld the Seahawks' 14-12 win over the Green Bay Packers on Monday Night Football.

The league said in a statement Tuesday that Seattle's last-second touchdown pass should not have been overturned.

The NFL says Seahawks receiver Golden Tate should have been called for offensive pass interference before the catch, which would have clinched a Packers victory, but that cannot be reviewed by instant replay.

The replacement officials ruled on the field that Tate had simultaneous possession with Green Bay safety M.D. Jennings, which counts as a reception. The NFL says that once that happened, the referee was correct that no indisputable visual evidence existed on review to overturn the touchdown call.

On the final play, Russell Wilson heaved a 24-yard pass into a scrum in the end zone. Tate and Jennings both got their hands on the ball, though the Packers insisted Jennings had clear possession for a game-ending interception.

Birthday Weekend.... Party like I was 25 again!!

Best Birthday EVER ... but I don't think I can do it again...

Ving & I

My wonderful husband threw me a birthday bash with friends and family this past Saturday. I was so happy to see my best friends and family I haven't seen in a while. My house was filled and the liquor was flowing.

The last of our guests left around 4:30 am. I did have a nap earlier but did get up and cook several dishes along with a few friends that brought some dishes.

We also had plenty of people bring beer and bottles of Remy, Hennessy, and Peach Ciroc (Thanks Nida, Linh & Brian, Goff/Navin/Ciroc/Rockstar/Starr - I don't know your alias this week, Thai, everyone else that brought over one). Also thanks to Amanda for my pink moscato that I have yet to drink.

I had fun and the house full of kids did too. I think some of the kids haven't seen each other in so long they hated to leave. My kids also got to spend time with their first cousins they haven't seen in about a year or so, so I was extremely happy for them.

It's been a while since I drank like that but it was so much fun but the next day I was paying for it. Not so much hangover but exhaustion. I have to remember it's not 2002 any more and my body can't party like it used to.

Thanks to Sophal for my gift card to Starbucks that I used this morning. Special thanks to my husband for putting it together, for buying me the North Face jacket I was crying for, for the past month and cancelling dinner on Sunday after realizing I was in a food coma at 5pm. I love you more than I can say!

All in all I had a wonderful party and a lovely day sleeping in. I think I slept away about 70% of my actual birthday (Sunday). Thanks for everyone who made it out. This was one for the memory books!

Always in our hearts.... we fight for you.

Gone but Never Forgotten...

Taking a moment to remember those fallen heroes on that sad day in America and those days that followed. Remembering all those lives lost, both heroes and civilians.

I remember that day. I was at work. When we saw it on the news, no one could grasp the understanding of what was actually happening. No one could understand that we, USA was being attacked. "What do we do?" kept going through my head. Only thing I could do was go get my children, go to my parents and wait. Months later, I joined the military wanting to do my part. Due to being a single mom, and no many outside responsibilities I didn't get to stay in long enough to make a difference. They could not allow a single mom to join with no responsible person to care for 4 children who could possibly become orphaned. So I was honorably discharged.

My father has always been patriotic for a man who came from a country of war that was torn apart. To find freedom and possibility of a good, healthy, prosperous future here in the US, he became a citizen. Growing up, he was always hanging up the US flag around the house, in his semi truck and loving those patriotic shirts they always sell in abundance during the fourth of July. Between the flags and bald eagles, my dad was a true patriotic American from another country. A military man himself, Army Sergeant in the Laos Division of the US Military. He recently received his recognition for his services in Laos in aiding the US.

Today, we continue on with our day, with our schedules, as parents, students, workers, soldiers & American citizens. We continue with our lives and show them that this hurt us, we will never forget but you did not scare us. We will not be scared easily. We will live on prosperously as Americans and we will fight back if you put our freedom, our families and our lives in danger again.
